Halal Chinese Restaurant Near Piccadilly Circus

Halal Chinese street food a short walk from the lights of Piccadilly

Piccadilly Circus is one of the busiest junctions in central London. Tourists, theatre-goers, and Londoners pass through it every day. What it does not have is a 100% halal Chinese restaurant. For that, you walk five minutes north into Chinatown and find us.

How to walk from Piccadilly Circus to The Greedy Sheep

From the Piccadilly Circus tube exit, head north up Shaftesbury Avenue. Pass the Lyric Theatre and the Apollo on your right. After three minutes you will reach the entrance to Chinatown - look for the red and gold gate over Wardour Street.

Turn right onto Wardour Street, then take the second left onto Little Newport Street. We are at number 8, on the left, with the green halal certification sticker in the window. Total walking time: about 5 minutes.

If you are coming out of the Eros statue exit, just walk north past Boots and the McDonald's. Same destination, slightly different starting angle.

Why this matters for halal diners

Most of the restaurants around Piccadilly Circus are chains. The independent restaurants are mostly not halal. The few halal-friendly options either offer a small section of halal items on a non-halal menu, or they are not properly certified.

The Greedy Sheep is fully halal certified. The kitchen is exclusively halal. The supplier is HFA certified. Every dish, every sauce, every grain of rice is halal. No alcohol is used in the cooking. No pork is anywhere on the premises.

That means you can bring family, business clients, or friends from out of town and not worry about the menu.

What to eat

We serve Northern Chinese street food, specifically the Xi'an and Lanzhou styles that grew up along the Silk Road. The signatures are:

Pre-theatre and post-show

Half the West End theatres are within ten minutes walk of us. We see a steady flow of pre-theatre diners between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. If you have a 7:30pm curtain, sit down by 6pm and you will be in your seat with time to spare. We have a full guide to pre-theatre dining in Chinatown for the timing.

After the show, kitchen runs until 10pm. Walk-ins welcome until last orders.

The Greedy Sheep is at 8 Little Newport Street, London WC2H 7JJ. Five minutes walk from Piccadilly Circus tube. Open 12pm to 10pm daily. Walk-ins welcome.
