Walking from Charing Cross station

From the main station exit on the Strand, head west, with Trafalgar Square on your left. Pass the National Gallery and turn right up Charing Cross Road. After about three minutes you will see Newport Place on your left. Take it, then Little Newport Street, and we are at number 8.

If you exit on the side facing Northumberland Avenue, walk up to Trafalgar Square first, then follow the same route. Total time around 6 minutes either way.

The Strand has restaurants. Most are chains, hotel restaurants, or pre-theatre tourist traps. Few are halal. The independent halal restaurants in central London cluster around Edgware Road and Whitechapel - both a tube ride away.

On the way back to the station, walk through Trafalgar Square. The lions are still there. The fountains run on weekends. The National Portrait Gallery is two minutes from us in the other direction if you have time before your train.
