Halal Chinese Restaurant Near Charing Cross

A short walk from the station to Chinatown's only fully halal Chinese kitchen

Charing Cross is one of the major arrival points into central London. Trains from Kent. The Northern and Bakerloo lines. The crossroads at Trafalgar Square. If you are coming in for dinner or transit-stopping for lunch, you are five minutes walk from a properly halal Chinese restaurant.

Walking from Charing Cross station

From the main station exit on the Strand, head west, with Trafalgar Square on your left. Pass the National Gallery and turn right up Charing Cross Road. After about three minutes you will see Newport Place on your left. Take it, then Little Newport Street, and we are at number 8.

If you exit on the side facing Northumberland Avenue, walk up to Trafalgar Square first, then follow the same route. Total time around 6 minutes either way.

Why eat here instead of on the Strand

The Strand has restaurants. Most are chains, hotel restaurants, or pre-theatre tourist traps. Few are halal. The independent halal restaurants in central London cluster around Edgware Road and Whitechapel - both a tube ride away.

For Muslim business travellers stopping at Charing Cross, The Greedy Sheep is the closest fully halal Chinese option. We are 100% halal certified, the entire kitchen is halal, and the supplier holds HFA certification.

You can be fed, watered, and back at the station in under 90 minutes.

What to order if you are short on time

If you have a train to catch:

  • Lamb noodle soup - one bowl, comes out in 8 minutes, fills you up properly
  • Pan-fried dumplings - 8 dumplings, ready in 6 to 8 minutes
  • Rou jia mo - eat with your hands, walk back to the station chewing

If you have a full hour, sit down and order properly. See our menu for everything.

Trafalgar Square detour

On the way back to the station, walk through Trafalgar Square. The lions are still there. The fountains run on weekends. The National Portrait Gallery is two minutes from us in the other direction if you have time before your train.
