FAQ

Everything you need to know before you visit.

Halal & Dietary

Is The Greedy Sheep halal?

Yes. The Greedy Sheep is 100% halal. Our entire kitchen is halal - every ingredient, every dish, every day. We are Chinatown's only fully halal Chinese restaurant.

Do you have halal certificates?

Yes. Our halal certificates are displayed in the restaurant and on our website. All our meat suppliers hold HFA (Halal Food Authority) certification.

Do you serve alcohol?

No. We are a completely alcohol-free restaurant. We do not use alcohol in cooking either.

Is there a risk of cross-contamination with non-halal food?

No. Our kitchen is exclusively halal. There is no non-halal meat or ingredients on the premises at any time.

Do you have vegetarian options?

Yes. We have vegetarian dishes including Mapo Tofu, edamame, and vegetable stir-fries. All prepared in our halal kitchen.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes. Several of our vegetable dishes, cold sesame noodles, and tofu plates are vegan. Tell your server you are eating vegan and we will guide you. Note that some noodles and dumplings contain egg in the dough.

Are any dishes gluten-free?

Most of our menu is wheat-based (noodles, dumplings, flatbreads), so options are limited. We do have rice-based dishes and some stir-fries that can be made gluten-free on request. Please ask your server.

Who certifies your halal status?

Our meat suppliers are HFA (Halal Food Authority) certified. Certificates are displayed in the restaurant and on the halal page of our website.

What does "100% halal" actually mean here?

It means the entire kitchen, every supplier, every ingredient, and every cooking process is halal. No alcohol is used in cooking. There is no pork or non-halal meat anywhere on the premises. Vegetarian dishes are prepared on the same equipment because the whole kitchen is halal.

Do you cater for allergies?

We take allergies seriously. Please inform your server of any allergies when ordering and we will advise on suitable dishes.

Menu & Food

What type of Chinese food do you serve?

We serve Northern Chinese street food - specifically Xi'an and Lanzhou-style cuisine. This includes hand-pulled noodle soups, rou jia mo (Chinese flatbread sandwiches), dumplings, stir-fries, and more. It's very different from the Cantonese food found in most of Chinatown.

Are your noodles hand-pulled?

Yes. Our noodles are pulled fresh by hand for every bowl. The technique comes from the Muslim Hui noodle-making tradition of Lanzhou, China.

What is rou jia mo?

Rou jia mo is often called the world's oldest burger. It's slow-braised spiced meat (we use lamb or beef) stuffed into a crispy, freshly baked flatbread. It originated in Xi'an over 2,000 years ago.

Do you have a PDF menu?

Yes. You can download a PDF of our menu from the menu page, or view the full interactive menu online.

How spicy is the food?

Most dishes are mildly spiced. Several signature dishes (cumin lamb, biang biang noodles, chilli oil dumplings) carry real heat. Tell your server if you want a milder or spicier version - we can adjust most dishes.

What are your most popular dishes?

Lamb noodle soup, rou jia mo, pan-fried dumplings, cumin lamb, and biang biang noodles are our signatures. The "Most Popular" gold badge on the menu marks the top sellers.

What are biang biang noodles?

Wide, flat, hand-pulled wheat noodles from Xi'an. They get their name from the slapping sound the dough makes when pulled. Chewy texture, served with chilli oil, cumin lamb, or vegetables.

Do you have a kids' menu?

We have several kid-friendly options - mild dumplings, plain noodles, and rice dishes. Just ask your server when you order.

What drinks do you serve?

Soft drinks, Chinese teas (jasmine, oolong, pu-erh), juices, and bottled water. We do not serve alcohol.
